I do a lot of long distance driving about the state. We're in a tourist and spring break state so on more then one occasion, I've had to call and tail a drunk driver. I've tried calling 911 and asking for transfer that way but the operator almost always seems peeved off as if I'd done something wrong.

When driving, I don't usually have a local phone book (or even exact knowledge of where 'local' is- mile marker 87 on SR-95 doesn't exactly have a county name) so I never know 'oh I should call Citrus county's sheriff office' let alone the phone number. And when tracking a drunk driver, I don't exactly want to pull over to borrow a phone book

If you can get online to your state's state patrol website, you should be able to find a link about reporting aggressive/drunk drivers. For example, Colorado State Patrol offers *DUI or *CSP, many other states have similar systems set up.

If a 911 operator ever gives you a hard time reporting a crime from a cellphone…ask to speak to a supervisor instead!

Drivers, such as yourself, provide an invaluable tool to law enforcement who can't be everywhere all the time!

If no supervisor is available, politely inform the operator you are calling from a cellphone and ask to be connected to, or provide the number for, the State Police.
